Epic Games, Inc. Launches Korean Subsidary

(2009-6-29) - Epic Games, Inc. has launched Epic Games Korea, its wholly owned and operated business unit based in Seoul. The new subsidiary extends Unreal Engine 3 licensing services and dedicated support resources to game developers in Korea. Click here to read the full press release.

Founded in 1991, Epic Games, Inc. is one of the world’s leading developers of cutting-edge games and cross-platform game engine technology. Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 is the three time consecutive winner and current Hall of Fame Inductee for Game Developer magazine’s Best Engine Front Line Award. Epic Games Korea was established to serve the Korean game development community and help Unreal Engine customers make better games. Services include technology evaluation and licensing assistance, as well as direct technical support for licensees of the Unreal Engine. 

Ray Park
Territory Manager, Epic Games Korea

Before he joined Epic Games Korea as Territory Manager in May 2009, Ray Park worked as a Business & Strategy development manager at Massive APAC, where he launched Microsoft’s dynamic in-game advertising network in Korea. Prior to Massive, he helped third-party game publishers and developers ship over 100 games for Xbox & Xbox 360 across Asia. Ray also worked at Sony Computer Entertainment Korea as one of its early founding members, managing the third-party software licensing group to prepare games for PlayStation’s successful launch in Korea. He has a degree from SungKyunkwan University with a major in Business.

Jack Porter
Support Manager / Engineer, Epic Games Korea

Before coming to Korea in late 2003, Jack was an Engine Programmer at Epic Games headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. He worked on the industry-leading Unreal Engine as well as the Unreal and the Unreal Tournament series of games. In Korea, he has worked for Softmax as Lead Engine Programmer, adapting the Unreal Engine for Magnacarta on the PS2 and PSP platforms, and leading engine development on the Unreal Engine 3 game Magnacarta 2 for Xbox 360. In 2008, Jack joined Reloaded Studios as Lead Engine Programmer working on the MMO The Day. In 2009, he seized the opportunity to rejoin Epic Games, making use of his wealth of Unreal Engine knowledge and his love of Korea to help Korean game developers as Support Manager for Epic Games Korea.
